Whether you believe or not we use software in our life everyday, like PC inventory software is use to do inventory on our PC or personal computer and others IT equipment. When we look for software we we can find many types of software like freeware, adware or shareware. So what are the meaning of freeware.

Freeware

Freeware a is software that offered free of charge and can be download from the Internet. Do they have license? Yes they have. Even though you did not have to pay anything to the software owner, it does have a EULA (End User License Agreement) or in lay man term user license.

Every license is meant to the freeware it is bundled with, but most program has some restrictions and this is common. For example, most freeware did not allow you to modify the program, sell it or repackage it. But it allow you to distribute to others, as long as you did not change the program and the license agreement is distribute together with the software.

Bear in mind, freeware also means no technical support provided, and some programs even do not have an help full Help menu. This is because many freeware programmer write programs in their spare time and do not have the resources to offer tech support.

Some free program do provide support but they encourage you to give donation if you are happy with the software. Some programmer of freeware personally answer email from end users, though this can’t be counted upon.

Some freeware program is only available for personal use like anti virus software, while for commercial or business use you need to purchase the license. Some freeware for commercial like PC inventory software allow you to use their free software for certain number of computer.

It is important you read the license that comes with any freeware program. You can read the license that will appear during the initial stages of the installation process. Do take note that freeware is offered “as is” and you are responsible for its use.

So why people offer their software for free?

1. This is because of their hobby.
2. They use freeware  as a stepping-stone to offer more robust editions offered at a cost.
